Comparing Light Bulbs

Questions to be Answered in this Project: Do incandescent and fluorescent bulbs produce the same amount of light? Do incandescent and fluorescent bulbs produce the same amount of heat? IncandescentFluorescent

Hypothesis: Incandescent and fluorescent bulbs produce different amount of light & heat.

Materials: 1. One incandescent bulb and one fluorescent produce equivalent lumens 2.Thermometer 3.lamp

Results: Starting point (Fahrenheit) 1 minute later (Fahrenheit) Increased temperature (Fahrenheit) Starting point (Fahrenheit) 1 minute later (Fahrenheit) Increased temperature (Fahrenheit) Incandescent Fluorescent

Analysis and conclusion: The average heat generated by the incandescent bulb was 3 F per minute. The average heat generated by the fluorescent bulb was 4 F per minute. The heat generated by the fluorescent bulb is more than the heat generated by the incandescent bulb. The light generated by the fluorescent bulb is brighter that generated by the incandescent bulb upon observation.

Further thoughts: What will change if we measure for 2,3,4 minutes or a longer time? What will happen if instead of 6 inches we put the thermometer closer or farther from the bulbs? After I finished the project I realized that the fluorescent bulb emitted both more heat and light than the incandescent bulb. There might be a connection between light and heat. We need to do more experiments to prove this.

Thanks for watching!
