Alternative Medicine A variety of therapeutic or preventive health care practices, such as homeopathy, naturopathy, chiropractic, and herbal medicine, that do not follow generally accepted medical methods and may not have a scientific explanation for their effectiveness.

Aromatherapy This method uses odors to influence an individuals moods or ease minor pain.

Biofeedback This technique uses a monitoring device to teach an individual to be aware of their physical state including heart rate and imagery.

Chiropractor This is an individual who practices manipulation and adjustments of the spine to treat various problems, especially lower back pain.

Visualization Visualization therapy involves your imagination and focusing your intuitive mind on what you would like to happen and believing with your rational mind that these images are real to your body. Imagination is more important than knowledge. Knowledge is limited while imagination embraces the entire world----Albert Einstein.

Reflexology This technique can help individuals correct their breathing, reduce their muscle tension, and focus on their problems without becoming anxious. A system of massage used to relieve tension and treat illness, based on the theory that there are reflex points on the feet, hands, and head linked to every part of the body. This technique can help individuals correct their breathing, reduce their muscle tension, and focus on their problems without becoming anxious.

Faith Healing This healing technique relies on the theory that through belief in God and individual can recover from illness.

Homeopathy This technique uses a diluted solutions of herbs, minerals, animal extracts and other natural substances to cure ailments.

Acupuncture This form of alternative medicine was developed in China more than 4,500 years ago that treats patients by manipulating thin, solid needles which have been inserted into acupuncture points in the skin.

Hypnosis The technique is used to ease stress by inducing a relaxed, trance-like in an individual; often used to treat addictions (smoking), weight loss and past traumatic events.

Magnetic Field Therapy Practitioners of this technique believe that interactions between the body, the earth, and other electromagnetic fields can cause physical and emotional changes in humans.
