1 UNIFIED FIRE AUTHORITY FIRE PREVENTION BUREAU Knox Box Ordering Information This document is designed as a summary guide using the IFC requirements for when a “Knox Box” is required

Unified Fire Authority KNOX BOX ORDER INFORMATION 1. WEB SITE: 2. Use the menu on the left side of the web page to select your product. 3. When prompted enter zip code (84119). 4. Choose Unified Fire Authority as the fire department listed 5. Select and click on the box, key, FDC cap, Padlock etc. desired. 6. You will not be allowed to select a product that the Unified Fire Authority does not authorize. The Knox web page regulates this. Series 3200 Box, Surface Mount with Hinged Door 3200 Series Recessed Mount, with Hinged Door *1650 Knox Residential *KNOX model 1650 residential type lock boxes can be used for individual strip mall type occupancies or when approved by the Unified Fire Authority Area Fire Inspector call for approval Series Cabinet 3500 Series Key Switch 3770 Padlock FDC Plug Model 3042 or 3043 Mount Knox box no more than 5 feet high near the main front door, and opposite the outside swing of the riser room door.

Knox Box Mounting Height Main Front Door and/or Door Leading from Outside into the Fire Sprinkler/Fire Alarm Riser Room Where required. Where access to or within a structure or an area is restricted because of secured openings or where immediate access is necessary for life-saving or fire-fighting purposes, the fire code official is authorized to require a key box to be installed in an approved location. The key box shall be of an approved type and shall contain keys to gain necessary access as required by the fire code official Locks. An approved lock shall be installed on gates or similar barriers when required by the fire code official Key box maintenance. The operator of the building shall immediately notify the fire code official and provide the new key when a lock is changed or rekeyed. The key to such lock shall be secured in the key box.
