Crate survey result -2 Comments: o LKr: the number of VME crates will depend on final choice of FE electronics o Straw Tracker The baseline solution needs 2 (maybe 4) standard 9U VME crates and they need to find somewhere 2 slots for TELL1 boards (in baseline we use only 2 TELL1) Fallback solution is to use about 16 TELL1 boards, which could be housed in 2 special TELL1 dedicated crates. They would also need another crates of unknown quantity and sizes, possibly 9U VME; as a guess, 4 9U VME crates housing 48 boards VF3 09/09/10

Crate needs survey result -3 Questions: o Paolo Valente: Possibility and cost of adding a few 6U J1-J2 VME slots for high populated TELL1 crate o Marco Sozzi: Possibility and cost of higher current (24A instead of 12A) on +48V for high populated TELL1 crate VF4 09/09/10

NA62 - CERN PH/ESE As we have learned (from the Hytec crate saga) the only crate producer which is welcome from point of view of the CERN control is WIENER. CERN pool (PH/ESE) has long history of collaboration with WIENER and definitely could be useful partner in negotiation with the company. A meeting with Vincent Bobillier (PH/ESE crate service responsible) held on August 17. VF5 09/09/10

Output of the meting with PH/ESE The ESE group runs a service to help evaluate, purchase, test and maintain crates and power supplies for use in experiments at CERN. A few interesting elements of this service are: o Price of standard crate and power supply purchased in frame of this service doesn’t depend on number of the crates and already fixed with WIENER or CAEN. o Usually there are 2 years guarantee. o After the guarantee period WIENER/CAEN will provide repair with fixed price independently of gravity of the failure (460 EURO) with 3 months guarantee(does not cover misuse or inappropriate usage of the equipment ). There is also a possibility to ask for verification (332 EURO). o ESE group is helping in all relations with companies, which include procurement, reception of equipment (with reception test), assistance of verification and repair. o ESE group is providing DB support by means of its “Technical Database” o Other details of the service can be found on ese/crates/crates.html. ese/crates/crates.html VF6 09/09/10

Output of the meting with PH/ESE - 2 Procurement of the crate is grouped and occurring 4 times per year. Usually there are 1-2 months of production time. So in worst case the time between an order and delivery can be up to 5-6 months The ESE crate service is not free of charge. The fee is shared pro rata among the users. Vincent estimated possible NA62 participation as CHF/year (under condition of total amount of about 40 crates). Price for standard TELL1 crate is 8707 CHF. Vincent thinks an increase of current on +48V with reduction of current on+3.3V is possible but will lead to extra charge of order 1000 CHF. WIENER already provided VME crates with mixture of 9U and 6U modules. Vincent thinks we can try to negotiate a production of mixed crate(VME/TELL1) with WIENER, but for this he needs full specification. VF7 09/09/10

Specification of VME/TEL62 crate VF8 09/09/10 At least the following questions should be answered: o How many VME and TEL62 slots do we need? o Is it 6U or 9U VME? o What power needed for VME and TEL62? o Do we need transition modules?

Specification of VME/TEL62 crate - 2 VF9 09/09/10 Can we use the HyTec crate as first approach? +5 volts digital at 35 amps for TELL1 & VME volts digital at 60 amps for TELL1 +48 volts digital at 4 amps for TELL1 +5 volts analogue at 35 amps for TELL1 -5 volts analogue at 35 amps for TELL1 +12 volts at 10 amps for VME and cooling fans. -12 volts at 4 amps for VME. Input of detector groups is urgently needed !
