GLOBAL CONTEXT: SDGs Objetive 1: Ending all forms of poverty throughout the world. Goals: 1.1. Eradicate extreme poverty for all people in the world, currently measured by an income of less than 1.25 US dollars a day by Reduce the proportion of men, women and children of all ages living in poverty in all its dimensions according to national definitions by at least half by Implement national systems and appropriate measures of social protection for all, including minimum levels, and achieve a comprehensive coverage of the poor and vulnerable by Create sound normative frameworks based on development strategies in favor of the poor at the national, regional and international levels taking into account gender issues in order to support the accelerated investment in the measures for poverty eradication. Objetive 5: Achieving gender equality and empowering all women and girls. Goal: 5.4. Recognizing and valuing unpaid care work and domestic work through provision of public services, provision of infrastructure and development of social protection policies, and by promoting shared responsibility in homes and families, as appropriate in each country.

SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT AGENDA: INTER-AMERICAN SOCIAL PROTECTION NETWORK (IASPN) What is IASPN? It is the principal mechanism used in the framework of the OAS, in which the region’s ministries and agencies of social development exchange good practices on social protection, poverty reduction and inequality, and strengthen their institutional capacities. Funding past 6 years : The main donor for the implementation of IASPN operations and activities was the U.S. Department of State. Other countries/agencies that have contributed financially to support IASPN activities: Barbados, Belize, Brazil, Canada, Chile, China, Colombia, Jamaica, Mexico, CISS, EUROsociAL II, and GIZ : The Korean government has provided financial support IASPN to continue implementing activities onwards: OAS Project Evaluation Committee (CEP) has approved a project profile for IASPN’s next 5 years stage.

SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT AGENDA: INTER-AMERICAN SOCIAL PROTECTION NETWORK (IASPN) 2015/2016 further progress was made in: Strengthening partnerships with key partners in the social protection and poverty reduction field (ECLAC, World Bank, UNRISD, OPHI, GIZ, International Policy Centre for Inclusive Growth/UNDP, CGAP, Child and Youth Finance International, Fundación Capital, Federal University of Parana, Tulane University/Commitment for Equity). Collaboration with other OAS areas: Inter-American Commission of Women (CIM), Legislative branch Program. Monitoring Participatory Gender Assessments (PGAs) in Social Development Ministries. Inter-American Social Protection Dialogues webinar series. Resource updates for the IASPN virtual platform.

SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT AGENDA: INTER-AMERICAN SOCIAL PROTECTION NETWORK (IASPN) Comprehensive social protection systems and the need for joint/inter-sectoral coordination (among government entities and different levels of government, and other actors), including social security, health, education, employment, food security, housing and others. Multidimensional approach to poverty and urban poverty. Next generation of income security programs (cash transfers) and links with productive inclusion/income generation/financial inclusion programs. Lifecycle approach to social protection. Social Protection from a rights based approach and life cycle approach (from early childhood to the elderly) Incorporation of equity/social inclusion in the social development agenda. Need for fiscal space for social policies. Strengthening social institutions (M&E instruments, targeting, registries, etc).
