Background of Credit & Data Bureau Limited o CDBL commenced operations in November 2008 to run the first Credit Bureau in Papua New Guinea. o Shareholders include the leading banks and financial institutions in Papua New Guinea.

Purpose of the Credit Bureau o The objective of the shareholders is to establish a network of credit information-sharing that allows members to make informed credit decisions on customer credit worthiness. o We use a sophisticated and comprehensive database, channeling information across the country to our members instantly, through the internet.

Services offered by the Credit Bureau 1. Credit History Report 2. Monitor Report 3. Debt Uploading to database 4. Identification check

Information captured by the Credit Bureau includes: Consumer InformationCompany Information First Name & Surname ID Address & Contact Numbers Occupation & Employer Company Name Registration Number Registration Date Status of Company Address & Contact Numbers Previous Enquiries Defaults Public Notices Previous Enquiries Defaults Public Notices

Some statistics for the Credit Bureau Currently we have: o Over 260,000 active consumer records o Around K200 million in defaults listed o More than K166 million in debt recoveries. o Around 14,000 credit checks per month

Credit & Data Bureau’s Code of Conduct o This is put in place to strike a fair balance with a consumer in obtaining credit information for the purpose of making an informed business decision o The Code of Conduct applies to CDBL staff and its members o The Code of Conduct is protecting the information held on the Credit Bureau.

Credit & Data Bureau’s Code of Conduct o Authorisation of Users – users identified, with passwords/training given o Confidentiality of Information – purpose is for decision making. Authorisation clause on every member’s application form o Accuracy of Information is of extreme importance to members and CDBL, therefore all possible measures and safety nets are in place at all stages of CDBL’s operations o Compliance Committee – set up to handle any complaints made by the consumers or companies in regards to their information held by the Credit Bureau
