WHAT IS CRIMINALISTICS?  Criminalistics is one subdivision of forensic sciences.  The terms criminalistics and forensic sciences are often disordered and used interchangeably.  Forensic sciences encompass a variety of scientific disciplines such as medicine, toxicology, anthropology, entomology, engineering, odontology, and of course, criminalistics.  Professional occupation concerned with the scientific analysis and examination of physical evidence, its interpretation, and its presentation in court.

AT THE CRIME SCENE: FINDING THE EVIDENCE  The goal of the evidence-collection stage is to find, collect and preserve every physical evidence that might serve to recreate the crime and identify the perpetrator in a manner that will stand up in court.  Evidence can come in any form.

Primary crime scene (where the original crime occurred) Secondary crime scene (subsequent crime scenes) Macroscopic crime scene Microscopic crime scene Type of crime affects the crime scene (Homicide, Robbery, Sexual Assault, hit and run etc.) Different crime scenes demand different survey methods (Indoor, outdoor, vehicle, etc.) CRIME SCENE INVESTIGATION
