My Proposal.. For my idea, I have chosen to produce a music video to the song ‘Live Like We’re Dying’ by Kris Allen. Originally this song comes from the album of ‘The Script’ as a bonus track on their debut album, but Kris Allen recorded the song after wining American Idol. The song is of a ‘moderate pop rock’ genre. It was written by Mark Sheehan and Danny O’Dohoghue, both members of the Script.

Kris Allen.. Kris Allen is an American musician and song writer, he is from Conway, Arkansas. He won the eighth season of American Idol. Before winning American Idol he brought out his own album, this was released in 2007 and called ‘Brand New Shoes’. He later re-released this album in 2009 and peaked at 18 in the U.S charts.

Target Audience.. For my target audience I aim to appeal to both boys and girls. The main target age will range from around 14 upwards. This is because it will appeal to younger people, but many older people, especially women would like the music too. Kris Allen is similar to the artists, ‘The Script’, ‘Adam Lambert’ and ‘James Morrison’. Like the target audience above, these artists have a similar audience. Most are more women then men though.

Conventions of Pop Music. - They all play several different characters throughout the videos. - Each video tells a story within the song. - They are dancing throughout. - Women are always dancing to the men. - All types of shots are used, long shots, close ups.. - The colourings are mainly blues, reds, and black and whites. (The surroundings and the artists outfits.) - Constant scene changes. As the music genre is ‘Moderate pop rock’ some of the conventions of Rock music include: - Frequent full band shots, and shot changes. -Dark Scenes and colours. -Often flashing lights are shown. - Breaking things. - Jerky Camera Movements. - Weird, surreal things going on.

Ideas For The Video.. For the music video I want to use conventions from both pop music and rock music. I would like to include several scenes of just the artist himself performing, like rock music videos regularly include. But I would like to use all different types of shots within the video, like pop music videos contain. Ideally I would like to the video to be some narrative and the other half performing. The song is about living life to the fullest so I would like to involve activities which people would usually like to do before they die, it also says ‘How come we don’t say I Love you enough.. ‘Till it’s too late’ so I would also like to involve something to do with a relationship too.

Costume.. Across are a few pictures of Kris Allen, they give you an idea of the sort of clothing he wears and the look that I am to gain within the video. Looking at these pictures I would like to have an outfit similar to the very bottom picture to fit in with the video performance and the genre of the song.
