Year 10 Portrait painters Summer Home Learning Research 4 painters you like – 2 contemporary and 2 traditional. There are some listed at the side which you can choose from or you can choose your own. There are some very good websites below. You must: 1.Look them up on the internet or in books, library or go to an art gallery BEST OF ALL!! 2.You must choose 4-8 pictures of the artists work to write about. 3.Use the ‘Critical Analysis of Artwork’ sheet to help you write about the artists work. You must never cut and paste text. Always try to put the main points about the artist in your own words. This is very important. Even if you only write 10 bullet points, it is better in your own words. Spell check it. Title and date. 4.You must try out the artists technique by copying (this is called ‘pastiche) a part of (or whole)painting/drawing /photograph/ construction. However the artist makes their work you must learn from them and then show me what you have learned. This is VERY important for higher marks. 5.You must take photographs as research of yourself or people you might include in your work (always ask permission first). These must be printed out first as a contact sheet and glued into your book – very important research. 6.Choose the best 4 to work from. 7.Do an A4 drawing/painting in the style of each artist from each photograph. All of this should take at least 10 pages in your sketchbook and MUST with out fail be handed in on the first day back after the summer holidays. It will be your first assessed work in year 11.
