Code Orange Author: Caroline B. Cooney

Summary: Mitty Blake is a carefree person- he doesn’t worry about important things like school. Why bother to spend hours doing a project just to get a good grade? When Mitty gets assigned a major project in biology where they research any disease, Mitty isn’t that worried about having an excellent presentation. Just a few notes and a poster with facts, right? He considers it luck when he finds old medical books at his family’s weekend house on smallpox. But when he discovers an envelope containing two scabs from an actual smallpox patient, his project is taken to a whole new level. Will Mitty find that he has diagnose himself with smallpox, a disease believed to be extinct? Will he introduce New York City to the smallpox disease? Read Code Orange by Caroline B. Cooney to find out.

Response Response: For my response, I created a front page of the newspaper on a scene that occurred in the book.

Exploration Exploration: For my Exploration, I ed the author, Caroline B. Cooney Dear Caroline B. Cooney, I am a student at BCS and a fan of your books. One particular book I liked was Code Orange. A few questions I have about this novel is did you ever struggle in school like Mitty did? Can you relate to his feelings towards school? Also, why did you choose smallpox to be the disease Mitty researched? Did you ever research smallpox yourself? My last question is why is your scene New York City? Do you live there yourself, or did you find it an interesting place for a kidnapping to happen? Thank you for your time. Sincerely, Nikki B
