Later Life In 1966, Baraka married his second wife, Sylvia Robinson. Somebody Blew up America In his lifetime, Baraka left us a bunch of worthless treasure. He published more than 50 books including fiction, music criticism, essays, short stories, poetries and plays. He taught at many universities, including the New School for Social Research, San Francisco State University and Yale University. Before retirement, he served as professor emeritus of African Studies at the Stony Brook University for 20 years. He received the PEN Open Book Award, in 2008 for Tales of the Out and the GonePEN Open Book Award Baraka died on January 9, 2014 in his hometown, Newark at the age of 79.
