Expectations

Teachers  Provide a positive environment that fosters learning.  Set classroom and homework expectations clearly.  Communicate regularly on student’s progress with conferences, phone calls or meetings as needed.  Meet the goals of the California Common Core State Standards  Maintain understanding of current effective teaching practices through professional development/

Parents:  Support school’s attendance, homework, and discipline policies  Maintain an open line of communication with the teacher via conference, phone calls or meetings as needed.  Provide a quiet place for child to do homework and reading.  Read with your child, modeling ideas, sequence, predictions, cause and effect, characters, and setting.  Make sure your child gets a good night’s sleep and eats a nutritious breakfast and lunch each day.

Homework

Homework is assigned daily (Monday-Thursday) and is usually due the next day. Homework assignments are practice from concepts learned during the day and may consist of any incomplete class work. Students will ALWAYS have time in class to get a good start on that night’s assignment. If the student is an especially diligent worker, he/she will have less to complete on a nightly basis than the less industrious student. Part of every night’s homework assignment is to read at least 30 minutes. Students are required to fill out a weekly reading log. Longer-term projects are assigned periodically and some class time will be spent working on them. Students will also be expected to work on them at home. Students may need to work on these projects and reports over the weekend.

Tips for staying healthy Encourage your children to practice good hand-washing habits throughout the day: water and soap! Make sure your children are eating well-balanced meals and getting plenty of sleep. Please do NOT send your child to school if they have a fever and other flu symptoms. Please limit their time on the iPads, computers, and TV.
