Sunday School ~ Children’s Church Combo Scenario Using Kids 4 Truth Curriculum Focused Group Study

What Kids Learn 120 Of the most important Biblical Truths –12 Doctrinal Themes –10 Truths per Doctrinal Theme –6 Doctrinal Themes per TruthBook (levels 2-4) Book 1 –God’s Book: The Bible, The Greatness of God, The Goodness of God, The Trinity, God’s Creation, God’s View of You Book 2 –God’s Law, Jesus Christ, God’s Gift: Salvation, God’s Purpose for His Children, God’s Work: Past and Present, God’s Plan for the Future –12 Doctrinal Themes per TruthBook (level 1) Book A = Summary Book – 1 Truth per Doctrinal Theme = 12 Truths Book B = 4 Truths per Doctrinal Theme = 48 Truths Book C = 6 Truths per Doctrinal Theme = 72 Truths

What Kids Learn Each Truth = One Unit (levels 2-4) –Unit includes: Memorize It Portion – memory work Commentary Portion – explains the Truth in a few short paragraphs Workbook Portion – look up a passage, fill in the blanks, and answer questions Brain Stretcher Questions – to get the child “thinking” on this Truth = great for discussion time questions Application Questions – to get the child to “apply” the Truth to his/her life = great for discussion time questions Bonus Questions – for the achiever child

Focused Group Study Focus on one Truth per week –Teacher TruthTime Lesson Plan –Student TruthBook Keep all children within the program learning on the same Truths at the same time. (example: all children in Book 1 of their level at the same time.) Memorize one Truth per week –120 Truths per level –Up to two reviews (12 review units) per level

Schedule Sunday School –Welcome, Songs, and Announcements –TruthBook Discussion and/or Review –Recite and Work on Memory Work Children’s Church –TruthTime Lesson Plan –Choir or Songs –Activity Time Review Gaming Activity Recitation Time (for those not in Sunday School) –Awards, Closing, and Dismissal Very similar to Sunday School Scenario with more time for discussion, music, and activities

Supplies Sunday School: –Student Supplies TruthBook TruthCards (optional) –Attendance Sheets –Progress Charts or Award Record Sheets. Junior Church: –Teacher TruthTime Lesson Plan –Attendance Sheets –Student Supplies for those not in Sunday School TruthCards Progress Charts or Award Record Sheets.

Expectations Memory Work – Child should memorize 1 Truth per week. –Can be done at home during the week –Can be worked on during class time if preferred Workbook Portions – Child should complete 1 unit per week. –Can be done as take home work during the week NOTE: If teacher reviews the TruthBook during class, those who did not do the work during the week can fill in blanks during discussion time in class. (especially good if working with bus children.) –Can be done as a small group discussion during class

Awards “You get what you reward.” Awards – motivate to achieve your end goal. Cool Factor –Stickers vs Patches or Prizes –Cheap Prizes vs Cool Prizes Flexible –A - One Award for every 5 Truths Recited –B - One Award for every 3 Truths Recited – great for outreach program –C - One Award for every 2 Truths Recited – great for outreach program –Limited: Theme Award if they can memorize all 10 Truths for Theme –Attendance & Responsibility

Rewarding Work Patch System –Easy, visible, “valuable” way to reward child for excellent work Others can see awards earned Gives “club-like” feel to the Sunday School –Flex how awards are earned to meet the needs of your ministry. Progress Chart –Inexpensive, visible way to reward Purchase pre-printed or download free charts Uses Stickers or Stamps Point System –Children earn points which they use to purchase prizes from a “church store”. Advantages –Allows child to choose his/her award. Disadvantages –Takes time to gather items for the “church store” –Prizes often cost more than the cost of a patch

Year Length Length of year = Rotation Schedule Length Choices –Year Round = 12 months –School year = 9-10 months (approximately 36 weeks) –Number of months or weeks Curriculum Covered –Per week –Per year

Rotation 12 month program equals –4 themes per year –12 weeks per theme 10 units = 1 Truth per unit 2 review units = review 5 Truths at a time –3 years per level Level 2 = 1 st – 3 rd Level 3 = 4 th – 6 th Level 4 = 7 th – 9th

Rotation 9 month program equals –3 themes per year –12 weeks per theme 10 units = 1 Truth per unit 2 review units = review 5 Truths at a time –4 years to go through all 120 Truths. Level 2 = 1 st – 2 nd Level 3 = 3 rd – 4 th Level 4 = 5 th – 6 th (child only completes 1 TruthBook per level, but makes it all the way through all 120 Truths at an appropriate learning level for his/her age.)
