Learning Target: – The students will explain how the establishment of the Republic of Texas brought civil, political, and religious freedom to Texas. Success Criteria: – The students will compare the similarities and differences of the Mexican Constitution of 1824 and the Constitution of Texas.

Civil Rights- the rights of citizens to political and social freedom and equality. Civil Liberties- the state of being subject only to laws established for the good of the community, especially with regard to freedom of action and speech Property Rights- laws created by governments in regards to how individuals can control, benefit from and transfer property Suffrage- right to vote in political elections
