Beginning of Year Must Do’s Nurses Schedule nurse on agenda at beginning of year to conduct annual blood borne pathogen and asthma, seizure, diabetes training during the week prior to students first day on campus Designate 2 school personnel as care managers to assist with medication delivery, diabetic management, managing invasive procedures at school during the nurse’s absence.

Assure care manager is on campus during hours when students are present without nursing coverage Allot time for the school nurse to provide care manager training and delegation within the first 2 weeks of school Exclude any student who is out of compliance for their school required immunizations on the 30 th day of enrollment

Athletics Know the heat guidelines – available from Athletic Director and/or Athletic Trainer Coaches can only be on the field with student athletes after approval for hire Student athletes can only practice after providing appropriate paperwork

Student Enrollment Family must be domiciled within your district lines or present approved transfer letter stating assignment to school Parent/legal guardian enrolls child. In some cases an affidavit will be used for enrollment purposes. Another relative (including stepparent) cannot handle this task even if they have a signed letter from the parent.

Enrollment (cont) Staff member charged with handling enrollment at your site can answer your questions about enrollment Students considered eligible for “McKinney- Vento” are enrolled even if unable to present all required domicile and immunization information

Parent Permissions Records - Parents can present a signed statement authorizing someone to represent them in school meetings. The letter is placed in cumulative file and is active for a one-year period
