Jesus – more than a man Mark 8:27-38

The pivotal point in Mark’s gospel Who do you say I am? You are the Christ! Galilee Hostile Judea Lots of miracles Very few miracles Teaching crowds Teaching disciples

1. A decision to be made (v27-30) It doesn’t matter what others say, it’s what you say Jesus is the real deal The Christ = Messiah = “Anointed One” Priests, Prophets and Kings were all anointed Looking forward to a future Messiah Isaiah 9:7

2. A mindset to be changed (v31-33) Peter’s wrong assumption about the Messiah Divine, yet destined to suffer Isaiah 52:13 - 53:12 Don’t worry about the Romans, worry about your sin Spiritual blindness – needs revelation and teaching

3. A path to be followed (v34-38) Where Jesus goes, we must follow A life surrendered to him No part of life will be unaffected

Who do you say I am? Mark’s purpose in writing Revelation – of who Jesus is Response – to who Jesus is “He is no fool, who gives what he cannot keep, to gain what he cannot lose.”
