Or “Why is What Where?”

“Where does it hurt?” “Order in the court!” “Would you like fries with that?” Match the Phrase with the profession and tool Who would say… “The forecast is more cold!”

But what about geographers? “Why is what where?”

World Geography - The study of the earth and the ways people live and work on it. Uses all sorts of tools, technology and sources Is Everywhere! Uses the Questioning Model Uses Spatial Analysis

Why is this geography?

The Questioning Model WHAT? Students must figure out the WHAT… What is happening? What is the event? What is the issue? HOW? Students must figure out the HOW… How is it occurring? How does the process work? WHY? Students must explain the WHY… Why is this happening? Why is this important? BUT WHY?

Practicing the Questioning Model Step 1 – WHAT? Choose a picture in any magazine and determine the WHAT? What is happening? Or What is the event? Or What is the issue? Step 2 – HOW? Determine the HOW? How is this occurring? How does the process work? Step 3 – WHY? Determine the WHY? Why is this happening? Why is it important? BUT WHY? Step 4 – Putting it all together. On the paper provided – attach the picture chosen. Answer the What? How? and Why? below the picture. Write the names of your group members at the bottom.

When studying geography it is important to categorize what we learn. E – Economic (money) S – Social (people/culture) P – Political (government) N – Nature (physical geography/environment)

Practice using ESPN Is this Economic, Social, Political or Nature?

The study of the earth’s surface through the variations and connections between physical features and humans (or, the use of space on earth by people) We ask ourselves the questions - Do we see a pattern? How is it like (compare/contrast) …? Why is what where? What is Spatial Analysis? Austin

Example - A quarterback has spatial ability. How so?

A quarterback in the middle of a play - observes the location of his teammates observes the location of his opponents sees the relationship between both sees a trend happening sees a pattern emerge moves the ball based on this pattern

You and your group will plan and act out an example of spatial analysis – just roll the dice! 1 = Scoring a basket at the game 2 = Moving from class to class at school 3 = Student choice 4 = Dancing in a crowded area 5 = Playing Pokémon Go 6 = Driving in Neighborhoods
