Texas Cattle Kingdoms and Trails You are going to create a tissue box project to represent either the Cattle Kingdoms of Texas or the Cattle Trails that Texas ranchers used. On the four sides of the box you will give details about the four main ranches or trails in Texas. If you are doing the trails, you will need to research the Chisolm Trail, the Goodnight Loving Trail, the Western Trail, and the Shawnee Trail. You must include: *A map of the trail *How the trail was founded *The years the trail was used *How many cattle were moved using that trail *Problems faced on the trail If you are doing the ranches, you will need to research the King Ranch, the JA Ranch, Matador Ranch, and the XIT Ranch. You must included: *A map of Texas showing where the ranch is located *Who founded the ranch and when *How many acres made up the ranch *How fencing impacted the ranch *Interesting information about how the ranch was founded or techniques that were used to be successful Each side is worth 15 points, presenting your project to the class is worth 10 points, and you can earn 10 extra points on this major grade if you do your project on a sealed, full tissue box. Projects due May 2nd

On the bottom of your box, you will need to create your own brand for your cattle. Using the guide to the left, you can create a brand that represents you. Make sure it is simple enough to make a brand from, but not so simple a cattle rustler can change it to steal you cattle! Explain what your brand means and why you chose your design. On the top of you box, you will research barbed wire. Explain why it was invented, who invented it, when it was created, and describe the impact it had on Texas. Include any major laws that were passed concerning barbed wire. You may also include images of the different types of barbed wire that were created and used Projects due May 2nd Neatness and creativity count. You must include color and write legibly.
