Coaches With Clients presents... “The Rapid Coaching Academy: Professional Coach Training System…” Session #5: Upgrade Your Skills

“Check In With Yourself…” Q: “How is it going so far with your buddy coaching?” Note: The more you coach, the more it becomes an effortless flow Sessions aren’t perfect It’s not like there’s a perfect way to coach It’s not agenda driven

“Upgrade Your Skills…” Coaching is a skill The best way to get good at anything is to do it a lot Get one coaching buddy, form a trio, or two trios, or start getting clients It can take time to get better at things

“Perfection vs. Patience…” We want to be good right away We want to be masters of our craft immediately Clients tend to be that way too Patience is a big thing to be aware of Be patient with yourself and help clients be patient with themselves

“Overview Of This Session...” You’re about to discover… How to identify skill sets that will impact the outcome of client goals How to prioritize the skill sets to upgrade How to create a system for upgrading these skills

“Skills & The 5-Part Methodology…” 1.Know where you’re going 2.Strategize your actions 3.Upgrade your skills –It’s about speeding up how quickly they achieve their goals –How well you’re able to do certain things will determine how quickly you’re able to make things happen for yourself

“Figuring It Out…” Identify the skills that are necessary for the goals they want to achieve “Are there any skills that you could improve on to help you reach your goals faster?” “Are there any skill sets that if you were to dramatically improve would help you reach your goals much faster?”

“Figuring It Out…” Create an assessment where they can self-assess their skills “On a scale of zero to 10, how confident do you feel about this skill?” Sometimes it will just become apparent

“Different Types Of Skill Sets...” Communication Interpersonal Time management Planning Sales Leadership Team building

“More Possible Skill Sets...” Aura reading Empathic Athletic Dating Relationship And much more…

“How to Prioritize…” You can’t work on everything all at once Q: How do you eat an elephant? A: One bite at a time. Work on one skill at a time or one aspect of a skill at a time “Which do you think is the most important?” When assessing themselves, their weakest skill might not be the most critical skill that will impact their success

“Q&A: What If They Don’t See That They Need To Improve A Certain Skill?” Just because it is a weakness of theirs, doesn’t mean they need to improve it Now Discover Your Strengths, by Marcus Buckingham and Donald O. Clifton Improving strengths is better than improving a weakness If you see something that is really important for them to improve, then just say “What do you think about this area?”

“Upgrading Your Strengths…” Just because you have a weak skill does not mean you are weak in that area It may just be something you haven’t exercised yet Sometimes we do have to strengthen things that are weaker areas

“How Do You Work With A Client To Improve That Skill?” As a coach, just bringing up the idea of improving skills is part of the job Making them aware of themselves is an important part of the process That’s step #1

“Helping Them Make Those Upgrades...” Upgrading skills doesn’t have to happen in the coaching session You don’t necessarily have to coach them on how to upgrade that skill They can practice, rent a DVD, read a book, attend a seminar, etc It could be homework to work on outside of the session You can role play something Just play along as you naturally feel you would, and give feedback on how what they said made you feel Role playing can help get the client more comfortable with something

“Share Your Expertise…” Teach them something Maybe you already have expertise in some area “How about trying this?” Be a role model for that skill Encourage the client to find practice buddies to role play with Real world practice

“Q&A: Do You Have An Example Of An Assessment?” I have assessments for small business owners and sales professionals Assessments aren’t hard to create A fun project might be to pick different areas that people might need to work on and identify what are the different skill subsets

“Exercise…” Stand up Imagine you’re working with a client and just think about that person and what kind of skills they may need to upgrade If you were to work with them to upgrade their skills, how would you go about it? See it in your mind Open your eyes

“Homework…” 1.Get together with your trio and assess what skills they could improve to make achieving their goals more certain or happen faster 2.Prioritize 3.Create an action plan for how you’re going to go about upgrading their skills 4.Keep checking in over time
