BUS TICKET SECOND: You: Can I have a ticket to Seattle at 2:00, please? Clerk: I’m sorry, that bus is full (no seats). You: When is the next bus to Seattle? Clerk: The next bus is at 4:15. BUS STOP Sometimes there are small buses you can take around one city. (Not far trips.) Look at the bus route (where the bus travels) online before finding a bus. Go and wait at a bus stop for the bus to come. Pay the bus driver and he/she will give you a ticket on the bus.

TAXI A popular way to travel in cities is by taxi. “How did you get here today?” “I took a taxi.”, “I traveled by taxi.”, “I got a taxi.”

TAXI In a big city, you can wait outside for a taxi to drive by. Wave your hand to make the taxi stop for you. Tell the taxi driver where to take you. Negotiate 谈判 the price. Sometimes you can negotiate the price before the trip or after the trip.

TAXI You: I need to go to the library downtown. Taxi Driver: Alright. You: How much will that cost? Taxi Driver: $11 You: $11? How about $8? Taxi Driver: I can take you there for $9. You: Ok, that’s fine.

TAXI In a small city, you have to call a taxi company to come get you.

TAXI (On the phone) You: Hello, I need a taxi to take me downtown. Taxi Company: Ok. What’s your address? You: 333 North Vine Street Taxi Company: Ok. We will send a taxi there in 15 minutes. You: Ok, thank you.

Subways/Trains In big cities in America (and other countries) there are subways. Some people call them trains. New York City has a very good subway system.

Subways/Trains FIRST: Look for this sign to know where the subway is. Find a ticket machine and pay for a subway pass. You need to decide if you want to use the subway many times in one day, or just one time. The machine gives you a subway pass. Don’t lose it!

Subways/Trains SECOND: Find a subway map. Find which train you should take. Look at how many stops the subway will make before your destination.
