Occultations of Regulus by Asteroids, especially by 134-km (268) Adorea on 2016 October 13 David Dunham IOTA Meeting, Stillwater, Oklahoma 2016 July 30

Skyplane plot, Regulus occ’n by (166) Rhodope

Sites of my recordings of Regulus within the predicted path, Bermuda Station 1 was a 120mm “maxi” with Stellacam II Integrating camera, to try to record Regulus’ com-panIon, but it took all its power just to see the primary star through a large cloud that passed over the area. The clouds were thinner at Station 2, which also recorded no occultation of Regulus by Erigone. Another mighty mini at Station 3 was clouded out at the critical time, and another one near the east end of the island apparently was bumped and didn’t record Regulus. Station 1 was about 5 km “inside” the predicted northern limit.

Side Trip to Indonesia May Rank 76 Occultation of Regulus by (1669) Dagmar, 2015 May 24

The best place for this event was Saudi Arabia Near Jeddah, the star altitude was about 67  with Sun altitude about -14  The university could only support the 6 mighty minis brought by Paul Maley & not the 6 that we had.

Our 3 stations around Bengkulu, s.w. Sumatra Sky dark, but altitude just under 5  there; the haze/clouds near the horizon only allowed Wira Hadiputrawan to record the star (very faintly) to that altitude.  show actual locations; 3 telescope symbols show locations that couldn’t be used. We thank Wira, from Lembang Observatory, Bandung Univ., for travelling with us to Bengkulu and central Java, and also Yudhiakto Pramudya and Eko Hadigunawan from Yogyakarta, for making all local arrangements.  Joan – star not seen  Wira – Faint, but Occultation recorded  David – star recorded to 6 

May 24, occultation of 1.4-mag. Regulus by Dagmar The occultation was detected at Wira Hadiputrawan’s station but the star was faint in the haze, making it hard to quantify the event times. I thank Tony George and Brad Timerson for the ROT-E and Occult event analyses here and for other occultations shown in this presentation.

Regulus is occulted again, by the 137km asteroid (268) Adorea on 2016 October 13, we plan to try it from New Ireland, PNG. It will be an excuse for us to return to Australia for a fortnight.
