Goal of the Coptic League: Goal Defined: The Coptic League serves as a Sports Ministry program for the Coptic Orthodox Church- Diocese of Los Angeles, that seeks to provide its participants with a healthy and fun outlet in which they may have the opportunity to express themselves in socially appropriate ways. What it is not: JUST ANOTHER SPORTS LEAGUE… “And also if anyone competes in athletics, he is not crowned unless he competes according to the rules…” 2 Timothy 2:5 “And everyone who competes for the prize is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a perishable crown, but we for an imperishable crown.” 1 Corinthians 9:25

League Stats:  Year round sports program  Basketball  Volleyball  Up to 700 Youth participating  Up to 15 Churches Participating  About 500 spectators at the Basketball Championship  About 200 players at last year’s Player’s Event

Role of a Coach: “Whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in Me to sin, it would be better for him if a millstone were hung around his neck, and he were drowned in the depth of the sea.” Matthew 18:6  Coaching is a service to God and benefits the Coach as much as the players  Sacrifice of the Coach’s time and energy  Tremendous responsibility in the lives of their youth  You are modeling the Christian approach to competing and leading  For some of our youth-this may be the last opportunity to reach them through the church  Are you involved in the life of your youth beyond just the practices and games?

Past & Ongoing challenges: Managing your Team Abiding by the League rules  Have a meeting with the parents and remind them of your role and theirs Enforcing your Team rules Balancing the time and administration of the team  Coaches- if you cant make all of the games/practices get an Asst.
