Who makes a good Student Council Participant? Are you a good student? Try your best, follow rules, leader? Are you outgoing and like to make important decisions?

PRESIDENT Runs meetings Meets with Sponsors, Principal and Assistant Principal Signs off on student activity requests Is a 6 th grade student Makes good choices and sets a good example!

VICE PRESIDENT Supports the president Meets with Sponsors, Principal and Assistant Principal in the absence of the President Takes meeting attendance

TREASURER Works with school clerk in accounting for funds in student activity fund Reports to council the student activity funds status Reviews requests for student activity funds and report to council

SECRETARY Takes minutes at each meeting Distributes minutes to the advisors and council members The job of the Secretary has A LOT of RESPONSIBILITY!!

Historian Attends Bridges Elementary School events to take pictures with school camera Will record a written record of the date, location, time of event along with the details of the events Works with the Yearbook Club to put together the yearbook.

CLASSROOM REPRESENTATIVES Two representatives will be chosen from each 4 th, 5 th, and 6 th grade classroom Representatives must: be a positive role model –Remember meeting dates and times –Vote on issues discussed in meetings –Participate on different committees –Be responsible in promoting and participating in special events Students interested in being a class representative do need to complete an application

Election Guidelines Mr. Ross, Mrs. Corona, Mrs. Braaksma and Mr. Beickel will review speeches Student speeches should relate to the position being sought and how you will perform the office Speeches are not to exceed three minutes No handing out gifts or treats Only one poster per candidate

Candidate Guidelines Collect 10 signatures on petition Obtain parent permission and this year’s teacher permission Complete candidate application Maintain appropriate grades Attend all meetings/events Demonstrate leadership ability and good citizenship every day at school

Important Dates to Remember Tuesday, August 16th Applications due to the front office. Wednesday, August 17th All eligible candidates to run for office are notified. Thursday, August 18 th Start spreading the word that you are running for office. Work on speeches/posters! Tuesday, August 23 rd Rough draft speeches due. Thursday, August 25 th SPEECHES IN THE GYM. Voting will occur after. Friday, August 26 th Winners announced.

ELECTION DAY!! ELECTION DAY!! Elections are in your classroom after the speeches on August 25 th Teachers will turn in completed ballots to the office at the end of the day Winners will be announced Monday, August 29 th in the morning during Announcements First meeting- 3:20-4:00 PM in training room on Monday the 29 th.
