EV3 Attachments and Sensors

Ultrasonic Sensor  Purpose: detect distance from an object.  What it does: Generates sound waves and reads their echoes to detect and measure distance from objects.  How it works: Sound waves and sonar.

Colour Sensor  Purpose: Allows robots to build color sorting/line following robots and see the variation in light.  What it does: Distinguishes between eight different colors; Light sensor by detecting the intensity of light.  How it works: Reads eight colors including: black, white, blue, green, yellow, red and brown.

Gyro Sensor  Purpose: Create balancing robots that can measure angles.  What it does: Measures the robot’s rotational motion and changes in orientation.  How it works: Uses angles to measure position.

Touch Sensor  Purpose: Allows for start/stops  What it does: Detects when the front button is pressed or released; capable of multiple touches or single touch.  How it works: Cross-axle hole on a button.
