G RACE ! Still Amazed?

Romans 11:6 But if it is by grace, it is no longer on the basis of works, otherwise grace is no longer grace.

Grace Trumps Works.

Amazing grace! How sweet the sound That saved a wretch like me! I once was lost, but now am found; Was blind, but now I see.

Because of sin we become blind, lost and wretched.

wretch (rèch) noun 1. A miserable, unfortunate, or unhappy person. 2. A person regarded as base, mean, or despicable: “a stony adversary, an inhuman wretch” (Shakespeare). from Old English wrecca, exile, wretch.

Revelation 3:17 ‘Because you say, “I am rich, and have become wealthy, and have need of nothing,” and you do not know that you are wretched and miserable and poor and blind and naked,’

2 Corinthians 4:4 in [their] case the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelieving so that they might not see the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.

God’s grace finds us, saves us and opens our eyes.

Romans 4:5 But to the one who does not work, but believes in Him who justifies the ungodly, his faith is credited as righteousness,

1 Peter 1:10–12 This salvation was something even the prophets wanted to know more about when they prophesied about this gracious salvation prepared for you. They wondered what time or situation the Spirit of Christ within them was talking about when he told them in advance about Christ’s suffering and his great glory afterward.

They were told that their messages were not for themselves, but for you. And now this Good News has been announced to you by those who preached in the power of the Holy Spirit sent from heaven. It is all so wonderful that even the angels are eagerly watching these things happen.

‘Twas grace that taught my heart to fear, And grace my fears relieved; How precious did that grace appear The hour I first believed.

The fear of the Lord guides my choices.

2 Corinthians 7:1 Because we have these promises, dear friends, let us cleanse ourselves from everything that can defile our body or spirit. And let us work toward complete holiness because we fear God.

Matthew 5:8 Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.

The Fear of the Lord The awareness that a loving God is continually watching and weighing each of my thoughts, words, actions and attitudes.

Proverbs 8:13 To fear the Lord is to hate evil; I hate pride and arrogance, evil behavior and perverse speech.

Proverbs 16:6 Through love and faithfulness sin is atoned for; through the fear of the Lord evil is avoided.

Knowing God’s grace relieves fear.

Hebrews 2:14–15 Because God’s children are human beings—made of flesh and blood—the Son also became flesh and blood. For only as a human being could he die, and only by dying could he break the power of the devil, who had the power of death.

Only in this way could he set free all who have lived their lives as slaves to the fear of dying.

Romans 8:15 So you have not received a spirit that makes you fearful slaves. Instead, you received God’s Spirit when he adopted you as his own children. Now we call him, “Abba, Father.”

Joshua 1:9 This is my command—be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”
