The Big Interview Heather Bradford EDU-650 Instructor Wendell LaTouche 10/3/2016

INTRODUCTION Heather Bradford - Education: Bachelor of Arts in Early Childhood Education from Ashford University. Currently in my Masters degree for Education. - Experience: I have worked for District 117 for three years as a classroom aide. I have also taught preschool students for seven years. Teaching Position 2 nd Grade Teacher

Education Philosophy *Mentor As a teacher my students should expect that I am their mentor I am here to help theme in any way that I can. * Open Door I want all the parents to know that I have an open door policy that my door is always open for questions or concerns. * Hands On Most students have difficulty understanding certain concepts if you just stand up and explain it to them but if you actual use tools and walk the students through they may have a better time understanding what you are trying to teach this is why I am a firm believer of using the hands on method. * Student Learning To create an engaging learning environment I always practice the different rules of classroom behaviors and put them into use in the classroom during every learning environment. Hall once said acknowledge the students contributions less, and build on their answers less (Hall, 1982).

Classroom Management Plan Student and parent involvement throughout the classroom. (Newman, 2013) Students are educators without knowing it. They will take part in everyday planning throughout the classroom. Using positive language when presenting the rules to any grade level helps the room stay more alert and happy. Respect Others Always Try Your Best Listen Stay in Your Seat and Raise Your Hand

Different School Models Public Charter School Smaller classroom ratio Technology was available to their everyday use Standard Testing was an issue Different Learning Levels School followed lessons Public School Large classroom ratio Technology was a struggle only one computer in classroom. Behavior was a huge factor in the classroom. Limited State Regulation (Newman, 2013)

Preferred School Model Charter Public School The Charter school allows their students a lot more freedom for the students instead of having state regulations (Newman, 2013) Sir Ken Robinson says that this is a huge important component when it comes to education (TED, 2006). Smaller classroom ratios Different learning levels for students with two aides. Providing more technology for the students

Lesson Plan & Designing The first method into starting a lesson plan is beginning with the end in mind. Then begin to create assessments that will help reach the goals that were set. Focusing on the students main ideas and reaching their goals by the end of the year is the most important part of lesson planning. Student’s Role in Learning Student Role in Learning Involved in learning Take Responsibility for their progress Students Should Work Together (Newman, 2013)

Assessment Matters FormativeSummative Focus on the teacher’s instructional process. Gives teachers and students information on how well the student is doing. (Wormelli, 2010) Ensure teacher they are focusing on student achievements. Use for practice Used to show teachers what students know and don’t know. Important part of standardize testing Used every few months or once a year. Classroom Management Assessments play a huge role in the classroom and are a crucial part of the classroom learning environment. Assessments take effect on grades, placement, instructional needs as well as curriculum. Different assessments keep teachers asking themselves if they are doing the right thing and if they are teaching what they should be teaching. Being in a classroom without implementing assessments could be a struggle for both the teachers as well as the students considering the teachers wouldn’t know where to place the students.

Professional Learning Communities Newman said professional learning communities can provide the resources and relationships necessary for teachers to be successful together in the school learning environment (Newman, 2013). Newman stated “A school that promotes this environment should display support from leadership for continued growth and unity of values (Newman, 2013). Newman describes the community stating “schools that are actively engaged as PLCs have teachers and staff who are focused on a common goal, sharing, communicating and working together” (Newman, 2013)
