Information & Updates SY 2017 Application Process Newberry Math & Science Academy Mrs. Nicole Corbiere

Application Process Eligibility Letters Newberry will receive letters between 9/23 and 9/30 Letters will be distributed to students PIN number Eligibility – schools where the student is able to submit applications

Application Process Log on to Use the PIN number from the eligibility letter to create an account address Password recommendation birthday (mmdd) Example January 21 st (0121)

Application Process How to decide where to apply? Plan to attend the N4 High School Fair on October 5 th Attend open houses at schools of interest Some open house dates are posted on our “Begin with the End in Mind” board

Application Process For schools with admission screenings (including auditions, tests, information sessions and/or interviews) Step One – Schedule admission screening Step Two – Apply to school

Application Process Student makes an appointment with the school counselor Review goals Review application requirements Assistance with application submission online Our goal is for every 8 th grader to submit a minimum of two (2) applications

Application Process Selective Enrollment Test Locations: King, Lane, Lindblom, Westinghouse, and Whitney Young Dates: December 17 th 2016, January 21 st, 2017, January 28 th, 2017, February 4 th, 2017

Application Process The Selective Enrollment High Schools admissions exam is approximately three and a half hours long (unless the student has an IEP/504 Plan that allows for additional time). The exam covers four subject areas: reading comprehension, vocabulary, language arts (grammar), and math word problems. Calculators are not allowed (unless this is specified in the accommodations on an IEP).

Important Dates Receive Eligibility letters between 9/23 and 9/30 Create an account using PIN October 3 rd – window opens to register for test sessions, information sessions, and application October 5 th – Network 4 High School Wells December 9 th – deadline for CPS applications March 3 rd – Offers will be posted online
