THE CORSET FIRST BECAME POPULAR IN EUROPE IN THE 16TH CENTURY REACHING ITS CULMINANT POINT IN THE VICTORIAN ERA.

A VISUAL TIMELINE, FROM THE ELIZABETHAN ERA TO THE 1920S, OF THE WAY CORSETRY HAS CHANGED THROUGH HISTORY, WITH THE WAIST LINE AS MARKING POINT.

WOMEN COULDN’T BREATHE PROPERLY AND THEY WERE SO THIGHT THAT NO FREE MOVEMENT OF THE UPPER BODY WAS POSSIBLE

It was part of a mother’s duty to her female off spring to make them wear the garment in early childhood. The girls was expected to behave according to the norms of the times.

During WWI, women were asked to stop buying corsets to free up metal for war production. So, women started wearing brassieres which used less steal in their construction.
