Journalism activity in Zabrze
I.The Secondary School of Journalism profile has been established in Zabrze II.In the journalism classes the emphasis is laid on the development of Polish language, foreign languages and Information and Communication Technology. III.In order to widen and deepen the journalism interests of students the following events are organized: Educational trips, for example to the seats of radio and TV companies. Meetings with well-known people from the world of media. Journalism workshops led by the media specialists. IV. Students of the journalism classes prepare school newspapers, lead school radio services and write short articles for local newspapers.
A lesson with a journalist On 17th February, 2009 the journalism class hosted Mr Wojciech Slota, the journalist from ‘Głos Zabrza i Rudy Śląskiej’ (‘Zabrze and Ruda Slaska Voice’). The students learnt some secrets of working for local newspapers, terms of writing press information and composing the newspaper layout. The prospective journalists were mostly interested by the area of sports journalism.
A visit at On 13 March, 2009 the journalism class visited the seat of local TVZ broadcasting company in the House of Music and Dance (‘Dom Muzyki i Tańca’). The young journalists observed the new newsroom, TV studio and the editing room. Ms Anna Ochman, the editor-in-chief, told the students about the history of TVZ, rules of its activity and preparing the TV daily schedule. The additional attraction was the ability to observe the preparation of sound hardware before a concert held at the House of Music and Dance.
A visit at the Polish Radio Katowice On 1st and 3rd December, 2009 the journalism classes visited the seat of the Polish Radio in Katowice. The students observed production of ‘live’ programme, the place of recording music concerts and the place of sending the radio signal.
Journalism Workshops On 26th and 27th November, 2009 the journalism classes took part in the workshops organized by volunteers from the New Media Foundation (‘Fundacja Nowe Media’). The prospective journalists deepened the secrets of their future work and were taught how to edit an e-newspaper. Meeting with journalists On 3rd March, 2011 the journalism classes took part in the meeting with Mr Arkadiusz Stefańczyk – a journalist from TV Zabrze and Mr Piotr Góra – a cameraman. The students learnt about the rules of local television routine covering the topics and the ways of producing the programme.
A journalism student as a reporter…
Journalism Workshops On 22nd January and 4th February, 2010 the journalist class took part in the workshops led by Ms Monika Pacukiewicz, a journalist from ‘Dziennik Zachodni’. The workshops showed the secrets of preparing coverages and reportages and the students have the ability to practise preparing short information texts.
On 26th March we had the honour of hosting the TVN broadcasting station presenter Mr Tomasz Zubilewicz. Except of many valuable tips our guest was telling about his TV work and his working career at school (he was working as a geography teacher for almost 15 years). Moreover, he presented the students his new book entitled ‘Polska na pogodę i niepogodę’ (‘Poland for Good and Bad Weather’). A meeting with TV presenter Mr Tomasz Zubilewicz
At the beginning of September, 2010 the students of journalism class were invited by Mr Tomasz Zubilewicz for a weather forecast coverage broadcast live from the House of Music and Dance. The prospective journalists had the unusual occasion to see the work of a TV cameraman.
On 23rd April, 2010 the TVN editor-in-chief and “Fakty” (`Facts`) news presenter Mr Kamil Durczok visited Zabrze and met the journalism class revealing some of the secrets of his success.
Visiting Warsaw From 16th to 18th March, 2011 the journalism class students were taking part in the excursion to Warsaw. The main goal of the trip was visiting of the seat of TVN broadcasting company. The students had the ability to see: TVN24 studio where `live` programme was being produced in; „Facts after facts” programme studio; The virtual studio where the programme “Czarno na białym” is being produced. The students saw the work in the most modern TV studio. They were able to observe the secrets of TV work and the amount of equipment needed to produce the final effect.
