What is a Dot Plot?

How to make a Dot Plot 1.Draw a horizontal number line 2.Determine and mark a scale of numbers below the number line—use equal intervals, if needed, but do not skip numbers/intervals. 3.Place a dot or x above the number on the number line for each number in your data set. 4.Give it a descriptive title.

Note: No y-axis Dots/marks should be the same size No key. Each “x” or dot = 1 When finished, there should be a dot/mark for each value in the data set.

Jasmine asked her class how many pets they had. The results are shown below. Make a line plot of the data. (Textbook p. 768, #1) Number of Pets

Step 1: Draw a number line. Step 3: For each student, use an o on the number line to represent how many projects he/she was taking. Javier asked the members of his 4-H club how many projects they were taking. The results are shown in the table. Make a line plot of the data. Then describe the data in the graph. (Textbook p. 768, a) Number of Projects o o oooooo Number of Projects Step 4: Title the line plot. Step 2: Determine the scale. oooooooo oooooo oooooooooo o o
