The Road to Destruction Philippians 3:17-19

The Hope of Heaven Philippians 3:20-21

The Hope of Heaven

Abraham

The Hope of Heaven Hebrews 11:13-14 All these people were still living by faith when they died. They did not receive the things promised; they only saw them and welcomed them from a distance. And they admitted that they were aliens and strangers on earth. People who say such things show that they are looking for a country of their own.

The Hope of Heaven Hebrews 11:15-16 If they had been thinking of the country they had left, they would have had opportunity to return. Instead, they were longing for a better country--a heavenly one. Therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God, for he has prepared a city for them.

The Hope of Heaven Hebrews 11:39 These were all commended for their faith, yet none of them received what had been promised. God had planned something better for us so that only together with us would they be made perfect.

The Hope of Heaven – Philippians 3: Join with others in following my example, brothers, and take note of those who live according to the pattern we gave you. 18 For, as I have often told you before and now say again even with tears, many live as enemies of the cross of Christ. 19 Their destiny is destruction, their god is their stomach, and their glory is in their shame. Their mind is on earthly things.

The Hope of Heaven – Philippians 3:17-21 But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ, who, by the power that enables him to bring everything under his control, will transform our lowly bodies so that they will be like his glorious body.

The Hope of Heaven – Philippians 3: Sure Hopes that Press Us Forward

The Hope of Heaven – Philippians 3: The Hope of the Palace (We will be in Heaven) But our citizenship is in heaven Philippians 3:20

The Hope of Heaven – Philippians 3: The Hope of the Palace …remember that at that time you were separate from Christ, excluded from citizenship in Israel and foreigners to the covenants of the promise, without hope and without God in the world. But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far away have been brought near through the blood of Christ. (Ephesians 2:12-13)

The Hope of Heaven – Philippians 3: The Hope of the Palace Consequently, you are no longer foreigners and aliens, but fellow citizens with God's people and members of God's household. (Ephesians 2:19)

The Hope of Heaven – Philippians 3: The Hope of the Palace Christ has promised our citizenship In my Father's house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you. (John 14:2)

The Hope of Heaven – Philippians 3: The Hope of the Palace Christ has promised our citizenship The Holy Spirit guarantees our citizenship Now it is God who has made us for this very purpose and has given us the Spirit as a deposit, guaranteeing what is to come. (2 Corinthians 5:5 )

The Hope of Heaven – Philippians 3: The Hope of the Prince (Jesus is coming again) But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ Philippians 3:20

The Hope of Heaven – Philippians 3: The Hope of the Prince And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. (John 14:3)

The Hope of Heaven – Philippians 3: The Hope of the Prince It is a literal event

The Hope of Heaven – Philippians 3: The Hope of the Prince It is a literal event why do you stand here looking into the sky? This same Jesus, who has been taken from you into heaven, will come back in the same way you have seen him go into heaven.“ (Acts 1:11)

The Hope of Heaven – Philippians 3: The Hope of the Prince It is a literal event

The Hope of Heaven – Philippians 3: The Hope of the Prince It is a literal event Awaiting: diligently, tirelessly, attentively, constantly, unremittingly and patiently

The Hope of Heaven – Philippians 3: The Hope of the Prince It is a literal event Awaiting: diligently, tirelessly, attentively, constantly, unremittingly and patiently The great climax that gives meaning not only to life, but to all creation

The Hope of Heaven – Philippians 3: The Hope of the Prince It is a literal event It is part of God’s Redemption Plan

The Hope of Heaven – Philippians 3: The Hope of the Prince It is a literal event It is part of God’s Redemption Plan We know that the whole creation has been groaning as in the pains of childbirth right up to the present time. Not only so, but we ourselves, who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for our adoption as sons, the redemption of our bodies. (Romans 8:22-23)

The Hope of Heaven – Philippians 3: The Hope of the Prince It is a literal event It is part of God’s Redemption Plan I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us. The creation waits in eager expectation for the sons of God to be revealed (Romans 8:18-19)

The Hope of Heaven – Philippians 3: The Hope of the Prince It is a literal event It is part of God’s Redemption Plan For the creation was subjected to frustration, not by its own choice, but by the will of the one who subjected it, in hope that the creation itself will be liberated from its bondage to decay and brought into the glorious freedom of the children of God. (Romans 8:20-21)

The Hope of Heaven – Philippians 3: The Hope of the Prince It is a literal event It is part of God’s Redemption Plan

The Hope of Heaven – Philippians 3: The Hope of the Prince It is a literal event It is part of God’s Redemption Plan

The Hope of Heaven – Philippians 3: The Hope of the Purpose (We will be like Him) And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ, who, by the power that enables him to bring everything under his control, will transform our lowly bodies so that they will be like his glorious body Philippians 3:20-21

The Hope of Heaven – Philippians 3: The Hope of the Purpose His Power guarantees it by the power that enables him to bring everything under his control (21)

The Hope of Heaven – Philippians 3: The Hope of the Purpose His Power guarantees it God’s will for us guarantees it

The Hope of Heaven – Philippians 3: The Hope of the Purpose His Power guarantees it God’s will for us guarantees it For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the likeness of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers (Romans 8:29)

The Hope of Heaven – Philippians 3: The Hope of the Purpose His Power guarantees it God’s will for us guarantees it I have given them the glory that you gave me, that they may be one as we are one: I in them and you in me. (John 17:22-23)

The Hope of Heaven – Philippians 3: The Hope of the Purpose His Power guarantees it God’s will for us guarantees it And we, who with unveiled faces all reflect the Lord's glory, are being transformed into his likeness with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit. (2 Corinthians 3:18)
