9 TH GRADE MATTERS!

Important Terminology Credit - earned upon completing & passing a course GPA - Grade Point Average: all the grades earned in high school Rank - how your GPA compares to your classmates Graduation Plan - all the courses you must take & the courses you want to take in high school Endorsement - Degree Plan based on college/career goals Public Service Business & Industry Arts & Humanities STEM Multi Disiplinary

More Terminology Classification – the grade you are in based on the number of credits you have earned 10th (Sophomore): must have 5 credits or more 11th (Junior): must have 10 credits or more 12th (Senior): must have 15 credits or more Final Exams: at end of semester 1 & semester 2 Transcript: academic record of all courses, credits, & semester grades earned in high school

Seniors 2020 – Graduation Quiz How many total credits needed for graduation? English, Math, Science, Soc. St., PE, Fine Art, Speech, CTE, Health, electives = 28 True or False…..9 th graders are required to earn an Endorsement True What EOC tests must be passed? Alg. 1, Biology, Eng. 1, Eng. 2, & US History True or False…..you must attend class 50% of the time to earn credit False

Calculating GPA To be Top 10% you must be distinguished (any endorsement with Alg 2) AP Courses – Advanced Placement – usually taken in 11 th & 12 th PAP Courses – PreAdvanced Placement – can be taken throughout high school Regular courses Dual Credit Courses – earn high school & college credit at the same time Articulated Courses – some CTE (career) courses that may count as high school & college credit

Calculating GPA Level III Courses: AP courses – multiplied by 1.15 Example AP Calculus – student makes a 90 for sem X 1.15 = goes on report card & transcript is used to calculate GPA

Calculating GPA Level II Courses: PAP courses & DC courses – multiplied by 1.10 Example DC US History or PAP W. History – student makes a 90 for sem x 1.10 = goes on report card & transcript 99 is used to calculate GPA

Calculating GPA Level 1 Courses: all other courses besides AP, PAP, & DC Exception – PLTW courses Example Regular English 1 – student makes a 90 for sem. 1 No multiplier 90 goes on the report card & transcript 90 is used to calculate GPA

Career Cruising Each student will have a specific username & password. ccTheRealGame – students role play adults in careers & working together to build better communities (example: monthly budget for a particular career) ccSpringboard - Online Course Selection and 4-year Graduation Plan ccPathfinder – track graduation requirements & HB5 endorsements ccAchieve – tools for organizing & managing the process of applying to college
