SHS Chemistry

Learning Target I will be able to Identify and Classify Reactions Warm Up Balance the following reaction: Cu(s) + AgNO 3 (aq)  Cu(NO 3 ) 2 + Ag(s)

 Take your time and work together as a group.  We have today and tomorrow to work on this assignment.

Learning Target I will be able to identify and classify reactions Warm Up Write an example reaction for one of the reaction types you have learned about. Explain it to your neighbor

 Complete the POGIL Classifying Reactions activity.  Add to your notes about how to recognize and classify the following types of reactions:  Synthesis  Decomposition  Single Replacement  Double Replacement  Combustion

 Independent Practice and Notes due today.  Quiz tomorrow!

Learning Target I will be able to show my knowledge of reaction types Warm Up How do you recognize a combustion reaction?

 Review Independent Practice  Take Quiz  Start setting up penny lab:  Label your beaker with your class period and table group number.  Write down what year of penny each group member has  File and weigh your penny  Put your beaker in the fume hood

Learning Target I will begin to investigate single replacement reactions Warm Up Grab lab gear Reminder: AP Night is tonight. Bring your parents and/or guardians if you are thinking about taking ANY AP course next year!!

Learning Target I will continue investigating Single Replacement Reactions Warm Up Get goggles and an apron. Clear your tables of everything but the lab handout. Read the entire lab procedure.

 You must wear goggles for the entire lab.  Be mindful of chemical hygiene. (Do not mix droppers)  Set up all reactions first (with the metals- except acid reactions).  Allow some time for reactions to progress.  Place metal pieces in the waste beaker, rinse the reaction grid.  Complete the acid reactions last.

 Independent Practice 3  Due Wednesday February 17  Quiz 3 is Thursday February 18
