Welcome to CCR Seminar! Career & College Readiness

Purpose of CCR seminar 1. To provide information to students in an effort to help prepare them for high school graduation as well as successful completion of their High School & Beyond Plan 2. High School & Beyond Pathways include:  Technical (T) (Tech School, Employment, Military)  2-year (2) (Community College)  4-year (4) (4 Year College/University) 3. The High School & Beyond Plan (aka 5 th Year Plan) is a graduation requirement and the components for this are housed in your Naviance Portfolio.

Learning Goals for CCR Seminar 1. Students will understand and assess their progress towards graduation requirements. 2. Students will understand how their high school choices influence their post-high school opportunities. 3. Students will know how to best prepare for success on post- secondary related tests (PSAT, SAT) 4. Students will explore career pathways, and career interests as well as post-secondary options in order to choose a High School & Beyond Pathway that best fits their needs. 5. Students will understand how to do a resume and a budget that supports their High School & Beyond pathway. 6. Students will meet all components of the High School & Beyond Plan graduation requirement (aka 5 th Year Plan)

What will CCR seminar look like?  CCR Seminar will take place the last 30 minutes of 2 nd period twice a month and will sometimes be in your classroom and other times you will attend CCR Seminars as a group on chosen topics of interest.  Look at your CCR Seminar Activities – T24 Plan Sheet This sheet outlines what you will be doing each month in CCR Seminar (this is a draft and is subject to change) Items that are bolded are requirements for the High School & Beyond Plan graduation requirement

Seniors – Some important information for you!  The next SAT test is October 1 st and the deadline to register is tomorrow, September 1 st If the school you plan to apply to recommends/requires SAT subject tests, you will want to get those done during the October 1 st or Nov 5 th test dates (the Nov test date may be too late for some schools). You cannot take the SAT reasoning test the same day you are taking SAT subject tests. Remember, fee waivers are available for students who are on free/reduced lunch and you can utilize the fee waiver for your college application fee as well. See your counselor for a fee waiver.  Create your FSA ID during Open House, September 8 th FSA ID is a logon you create to be able to complete the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) The FAFSA form is how you qualify for grants and loans for college. We recommend all seniors complete the FAFSA so you are leaving your options open. You might be surprised at what you qualify for. The FAFSA form will open up on October 1 st this year We will have the library labs open during Open House night for senior students/parents to come in and get this done The student and 1 parent needs to create separate FSA IDs. You will need to know your Social Security Number to do this Mrs. Farnsworth will be there to provide help and answer any questions that may come up regarding financial aid.  Pick up a flier in the College & Career Center regarding the above items to include the SAT/ACT test dates for this year.

Just a few reminders!  Pictures (Packets were distributed yesterday) Pictures will be taken tomorrow, Thursday, Sept 1 st through one of your classes All students are required to have their pictures taken for Shadle ID purposes You are NOT required to purchase the pictures you have taken You should put your 2 nd period teacher’s name on the packet for purposes of having them returned to your CCR classroom If you are not in the class that is designated for picture taking, please take your packet and go down to have your picture taken during lunch time, or some other time during the day when you have time.  1 st week Bell Schedule (you were provided this yesterday) Please note that this week is all Plaid days

What to do with CCR Seminar handouts: Gr 9 – You will receive a folder during the Sept 12 CCR class Gr See your PODS teacher from last year to obtain your PODS folder (if your PODS teacher is no longer at Shadle, or you are new to Shadle, obtain your folder from the Career Center, B104.) Have a great year!
