CARISMAND Culture And RISkmanagement in Man-made And Natural Disasters EU - HORIZON START: October EU partners 11 countries: The Netherlands, UK, Germany, France, Spain, Portugal, Malta, Romania, Bulgaria, Serbia and Italy UNIFI; CNR; COMUNE di FIRENZE – Civil Protection; Laboratorio di Scienze della Cittadinanza CARISMAND IS A EUROPEAN PROJECT ADDRESSED TO IDENTIFY THE LINKS AND GAPS BETWEEN DISASTER MANAGEMENT (BOTH NATURAL AND MAN-MADE DISASTERS), CULTURE AND RISK PERCEPTION FROM THE BROADEST POSSIBLE MULTI-DISCIPLINARY PERSPECTIVE AND, SIMULTANEOUSLY, IN DEVELOPING A FEEDBACK-LOOP BETWEEN DISASTER MANAGEMENT STAKEHOLDERS AND CITIZENS

PROJECT GOALS IMPROVING THE POLICIES, PROCEDURES AND COORDINATION BETWEEN THE ACTORS INVOLVED IN DISASTERS MANAGEMENT Disaster Management CULTURAL ASPECTS Risk perception multidisciplinary analysis of links and gaps between:  Increased effectiveness of those who respond to disasters  A more resilient society by ensuring that cities are better prepared and able to recover from emergencies  Better meeting the needs of various cultures during disaster relief, thus improving reaction time and reducing fatalities, in order to provide disaster relief

PROJECT GOALS HOW THE CULTURAL ASPECT (ETHNIC MINORITIES, LANGUAGE, RELIGION, AGE ETC.) IS CURRENTLY CONSIDERED IN DISASTERS MANAGEMENT AND WHAT SHOULD BE IMPROVED AND IMPLEMENTED IMPLEMENTATION OF A TOOLKIT FOR ALLOWING ALL THE OPERATORS, INCLUDING VOLUNTARY ASSOCIATIONS, TO ADOPT CULTURALLY AWARE PRACTICES

WHAT WE’VE DONE: TASK 1 SURVEY ON LINE PROPOSED TO ALL PARTNERS TO HAVE A FULL VIEW ON CATEGORIES OF ACTORS INVOLVED IN DISASTERS MANAGEMENT FOCUS ON THE ACTORS INVOLVED IN PROCEDURES ADDRESSED TO CATEGORIES CONSIDERED “AT RISK” AGE (BABIES AND OLD PEOPLE) PEOPLE WITH PSYCHOPHYSICAL DISABILITIES ELECTRO-MEDICALS OUTDOOR WORKERS GENDER LANGUAGE RELIGION

WHAT WE’RE DOING: TASK 2 COLLECTION OF MATERIAL OF THE SURVEY FOR AN OVERVIEW ON PROCEDURES ADOPTED BY THE PARTNER COUNTRIES IN CASE OF DISASTER FOCUS ON PROCEDURES ADDRESSED TO THE CATEGORIES CONSIDERED “AT RISK” AGE (BABIES AND OLD PEOPLE) PEOPLE WITH PSYCHOPHYSICAL DISABILITIES ELECTRO-MEDICALS OUTDOOR WORKERS GENDER LANGUAGE RELIGION

EXAMPLE: HEAT WAVES IN TUSCANY DAILY BIOMETEOROLOGICAL BULLETIN FOR FORECASTING THE EFFECTS OF WEATHER ON THE HEALTH OF the ELDERLY (OVER 65) WEBSITE: BIOCLIMATOLOGICAL INFORMATION IN TUSCANY

WHAT WE’RE GOING TO DO: TASK 3-4 IN TASK 3 THE EXISTING POLICIES RELATIVE TO DISASTER MANAGEMENT IN PARTNER COUNTRIES WILL BE COLLECTED DURING TASK 4 STRENGTHNESS AND GAPS WILL BE ANALYSED FOR ARRIVING TO A GUIDE LINE RELATIVE TO THE “BEST PRACTICES” THAT SHOULD BE ADOPTED IN CASE OF DISASTER PARTICULAR ATTENTION WILL ALWAYS BE ADDRESSED TO THE CATEGORIES CONSIDERED AT RISK

CONCLUSIONS THIS WP WILL END AT THE END OF 2016 AND THE PROJECT WILL GO ON WITH ALL OTHER W-PACKAGES UNTIL OCTOBER 2018 GUIDELINES TO MINIMIZE THE IMPACT OF DISASTERS TOOLKIT
