February, 6 th 2008 DESIGNING AROUND BUSINESS MODELS Download and Try & Buy, Casual MMOs and Microtransactions, Facebook Apps, Advertising- Based, Console, Subscriptions, Skill games…in what ways do the different business models we design for break game design? Does designing around a particular business model prevent you from innovating?

February, 6 th 2008 DESIGNING FOR DEMOGRAPHIC SHIFTS As we’ve grown as an industry how have demographics changed? What audience are we designing for? Everybody? If so, are there any real rules? After all, other media that grow out of a niche, don’t stay monolithic – they fragment out serving multiple categories – if we are for “everybody” how does that change our understanding of game design?

February, 6 th 2008 DESIGN JAIL. What aspects of current casual game design should be outlawed?? What constraints are we under that need to be destroyed? What is holding us back from reaching our potential for exploration of interaction, play and narrative? What would you abolish? Who or what would you send to Design Jail?

February, 6 th 2008 DESIGN ENVY. If there is one casual game out there that you could have designed (but didn’t’) which is it? Why? What would you have done differently? How would you have changed it?

February, 6 th 2008 DESIGN MISTAKES. What are your biggest mistakes? If you could go back in time and change things...
