{ Circus Maximus By Ben

 Was held in the Circus Maximus Stadium.  Watch gladiators compete with each other or wild animals, athletics, wrestling (etc)  Was setting for great Roman chariot races. Circus Maximus

 Admission was free to all.  Riders were trampled beneath the stampede of horses.  Twelve chariots raced around the oval for seven laps.  The winner of each race received a wreath of money. Circus Maximus

 Held 200,000 people in the crowd.  With crowds this large, the lives of spectators were in danger.  People were sometimes trampled and killed.  Circus Maximus is located in Rome, Italy.  It was the first and largest stadium in ancient Rome. Circus Maximus

 Was constructed in 6 th century BCE.  and legend says that the Circus Maximus was originally laid out in the 6th century BCE by the first Roman kings.  Made during the reign of Julius Caesar. Circus Maximus

 Secondary function was to host the Roman Games.  The Roman Games were held in honor of Zeus.  The Roman Games consisted of many things including gladiator contests. Circus Maximus

 On most days chariot races took place.  However, occasionally Other special events took place such as gladiator shows, athletics and wrestling also took place.  Some charioteers trained for Circus Maximums while they were children. Circus Maximus
