STUDENT FEES AND FUNDING

Provide up to date information regarding 2017 tuition fees Explain what student funding is available to support your university experience Information about how to apply for your funding AIMS OF THIS SESSION

REPAYABLE Tuition fee loan (covers the entire costs of tuition fees) Living cost loan NON-REPAYABLE Bursaries Scholarships Additional funding grants could be available in Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland FINANCIAL SUPPORT AVAILABLE

Don’t have to pay anything upfront Equivalent to your fee – £9,000 or £9,250 Doesn’t depend on your household income Paid directly to your university/college TUITION FEE LOANS

Living cost loan available to all full-time UK students, irrespective of household income For 2017 entry, everyone is entitled to at least 44% of the loan depending on where they are living while studying. The remaining 56% is “income assessed” on household income (gross income minus certain allowances such as pensions and charitable donations) It is paid in three instalments LIVING COST LOAN

Financial Support Fund - Help for students who may be considering leaving Higher Education because of financial problems Santander Scholarships - language exchange programmes, initiatives to promote volunteering and the development of employability skills Parents Learning Grant Childcare Grant Adult Dependant Grant OTHER FINANCIAL SUPPORT

Help towards the additional costs that a student may face as a result of their disability, mental-health condition, progressive medical condition, specific allergy or specific learning difficulty Apply directly through Student Finance England/Wales through a specific form In addition to the standard student finance package and is not affected by household income Does not have to be repaid Looks at the specific needs of the individual in relation to their circumstances and studies DISABLED STUDENT ALLOWANCE

Online applications You don’t need a confirmed place at university/college to apply – can change location at any time Apply as early as possible as can take at least 6 weeks When completing the UCAS application form, students are encouraged to select the option that they intend to make an application through Student Finance England – this will allow them to contact the student when it opens. APPLYING THROUGH STUDENT FINANCE ENGLAND

Students can consent to have up to two people speak on their behalf – they must be registered first to do so Parents have own portal and log in Student Finance England 'surgeries' on Facebook, Twitter and The Student Room – a representative available to answer questions Student Finance England have a Facebook group and twitter – able to see news and updates APPLYING THROUGH STUDENT FINANCE ENGLAND
