Overview of Culture  Family is the central part of the culture, everything revolves around the family.  Celebrations are an important part of the culture.  Honor, Good Manners and Respect for Authority and the Elderly are also important  Men are the head of the household and in charge of all aspects of life  Family is the central part of the culture, everything revolves around the family.  Celebrations are an important part of the culture.  Honor, Good Manners and Respect for Authority and the Elderly are also important  Men are the head of the household and in charge of all aspects of life

History of the Culture  Hispanic is actually a ethnicity and not a race  The term was coined by the US Federal Government in the Early 1970’s to connect Spanish speaking countries.  There are many variances within the Hispanic community when it comes to traditions.  Hispanic is actually a ethnicity and not a race  The term was coined by the US Federal Government in the Early 1970’s to connect Spanish speaking countries.  There are many variances within the Hispanic community when it comes to traditions.

Educational Considerations  Language is often major barrier.  Second generation immigrants are most likely to the best educationally than any other generation.  Teachers HAVE to get to know the culture of their students.  Language is often major barrier.  Second generation immigrants are most likely to the best educationally than any other generation.  Teachers HAVE to get to know the culture of their students.

Inclusionary Practices  Integration of Hispanic culture throughout the curriculum. Make sure to spotlight Hispanic innovators throughout the year.  Find out festivals that your students celebrate and bring it into the classroom somehow.  Learn to speak the language.  Integration of Hispanic culture throughout the curriculum.
