ROMAN FAMILY LIFE  Family life was led by the paterfamilias (father of the family)  Everyone in the family had to obey their father, including grown children

ROMAN FAMILY LIFE  Roman men were expected to provide for themselves and their families  In rich families, the husbands usually held important political jobs while in poor families, both the men and women worked lesser jobs

ROMAN FAMILY LIFE  Wealthy Roman women ran the households and often bought and sold property in order to make money  Roman babies were born at home and sickly children were left outside to die
