World War II The second World War was a global war which lasted six years ( ).

The war has two military alliances the Allies : (the USA, France, Great Britain, Poland, China and from 1941 onwards also Soviet Union) the Axis : (Germany, Italy and Japan).

Casualties of the war It was the most widespread war in history and directly involved more than 100 million people from over 30 countries. In World War II there died over 11 million people (including the Holocaust). 50 to 85 million Japanese died in Nagasaki and Hiroshima bombings. Japan surrendered on 15 august 1945 that ended the war in Asia and it ensured the victory of the Allies.
