LISAP is a department of the CCAP Synod of Livingstonia, started HIV & AIDS work in 1989 but established as an FBO in LISAP coordinates & implements HIV & AIDS work, mobilises & empowers communities to initiate and sustain HIV & AIDS activities with a Christ centred spirit. Summary of NA outcomes Knowledge: In adequate knowledge of the youth on personal risk factors. In adequate knowledge for SRHR for aunts who provide information to the youths. Lack of linkages between health and education system. 19/11/20164Livingstonia Synod AIDS Programme

Policy Mission To promote access to SRHR services for the youth in Northern Region through a holistic school and community approach. 19/11/20168Livingstonia Synod AIDS Programme

Target group Both in and out of school youth within the age bracket of 9 – 30 years. Much focus on girls because the needs assessment observes that they are the most affected gender in terms of SRHR uptake. Both urban and rural areas of Malawi with a bias towards rural youth due to poor access to SRHR services compared to their urban counterparts. 19/11/20169Livingstonia Synod AIDS Programme

Objectives Increase knowledge in SRHR among 90% of young people in Northern Region by 2015 Improve attitude of 60% of the youth in the Northern Region towards seeking SRH services by 2015 Improve skills in SRHR for 100 teachers and 150 health workers in the Northern Region by /11/201610Livingstonia Synod AIDS Programme

Activities to address the gaps Train the youth in SRHR & life skills. Build capacity aunts and traditional initiators in SRHR counselling and guidance. Advocate for linkages between health workers and teachers on SRHR. Train health workers & teachers in SRHR, youth friendly health services & life skills. Approaches Diversification of Approaches The policy shall have different approaches targeting young people based on age, education level and gender. The policy shall also target parents and teachers with a different approach from that of young people. Youth participation Youth shall have full involvement and consultation in addressing issues that affect them. 19/11/201613Livingstonia Synod AIDS Programme

Approaches cont’d Teachers, parents, health workers & other stakeholders shall be actively involved in addressing issues that affect young people’s SRHR. Positive approach of sexuality The policy as informed by the NA will focus on coming up with evidence based responses to SRHR for young people and shall combine different approaches that are effective. 19/11/201614Livingstonia Synod AIDS Programme

Approaches cont’d Sensitive issues I nterventions for young unmarried youths shall focus on ABDE+ (Abstinence, Be faithful, Delay sexual activity & Equal partnership in making decisions about sexuality. The main focus is increasing sexual debut and marital age of young people. Culturally sensitive & guided discussions on issues like MSM, masturbation etc shall be encouraged 19/11/201615Livingstonia Synod AIDS Programme

Social norms Working on cultural and traditional attitudes of early and forced marriages. Co-operation with health services LISAP shall coordinate & network with government, mission hospitals and other stakeholders in different sectors for diversification of strategies that address issues of youth SRHR. 19/11/201616Livingstonia Synod AIDS Programme

Approaches cont’d Access to counseling LISAP shall encourage professional counseling to young people starting at community as well as school & health facility levels. Inter-active participation of beneficiaries LISAP believes in active involvement of its beneficiaries in all its programming, therefore there shall be active involvement of the youth. 19/11/201617Livingstonia Synod AIDS Programme

M&E System LISAP shall utilise the existing M&E system within the organisation. Participatory M&E with the community & other stakeholders which shall inform programme management. 19/11/201618Livingstonia Synod AIDS Programme

Stakeholder involvement All projects begin with briefing stakeholders at different levels for proper coordination & complimentarity. Different stakeholders shall be involved in addressing the needs of the youth SRHR for diversification of methodologies.
