International Observe the Moon Night InOMN is an annual worldwide public event that encourages observation, appreciation, and understanding of our Moon and its connection to NASA planetary science and exploration. Everyone on Earth is invited to join the celebration by hosting or attending an InOMN event — and uniting on one day each year to look at and learn about the Moon together.

InOMN History 2016 marks the 7 th year of InOMN! Sponsored by NASA’s Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter, NASA’s Solar System Exploration Research Virtual Institute (SSERVI), and the Lunar and Planetary Institute with many partners. In 2015, an estimated 250,000 visitors attended InOMN events at over 545 sites in 54 countries all over the world. At least 273 groups or institutions have hosted more than one InOMN event over the past six years.

InOMN Goals To increase visitors’ awareness about lunar science and exploration. To increase people’s interest in lunar science and exploration. To inspire people to want to learn more about (NASA’s) planetary science and exploration efforts, using the Earth’s familiar Moon as an entryway. To provide connections to learn more.
