Year 7 Graphics – CAD CAM - Logos, Symbols, Pictograms and Ideograms Objective: To understand what Logos, Symbols, Pictograms and Ideograms are and why they are used.Outcome: To be able to use them to communicate and inform. Starter How many can you identify in 2mins? Level 3c: 1-6 Level 3b: 7-9 Level 3a: Level 4c: Level 4b: Level 4a: Level 5c: 25-30

Year 7 Graphics – CAD CAM - Logos, Symbols, Pictograms and Ideograms

Ideograms/ Pictograms – pictures that simple and easily identifiable, that represent ideas and objects and can be used in any country so universal. Found: Apps, Equipment (operation), Stations Symbols – Can be used where an ideogram doesn’t exist. Found: Product Labels, Food packaging Logos is a graphic used by businesses and people to create a brand image and help people recognise them. Logos are either purely graphic (symbols/icons) or are composed of the name of the organization (a logotype or wordmark). Found: Everywhere, Clothing, Documents, Transport, Products

Year 7 Graphics – CAD CAM - Logos, Symbols, Pictograms and Ideograms

Task 1: Draw 3 Logos/ Symbols/ Pictograms/ Ideograms, explain where they are used and what they mean.

Year 7 Graphics – CAD CAM - Logos, Symbols, Pictograms and Ideograms CAD – Computer Aided Design Computer Software that is used to create designs AutoCAD ArchiCAD Techsoft 2D Design Pro Engineer Solid Works Google Sketchup Paint Can be either 2D or 3D CAM – Computer Aided Manufacture Machinery that uses CAD to produce products Laser Printer Vinyl/ Laser Cutter CNC Router CNC Milling Machine 3d printer (Rapid Prototyping - RP) Laser sintering Can be either 2D or 3D

Year 7 Graphics – CAD CAM - Logos, Symbols, Pictograms and Ideograms Task 2: Write down as many examples of CAD software you know and CAM Machinery you may have heard of. CAD: CAM: Task 3: Log onto your computer and find a Logo/ Symbol/ Pictogram and Ideogram and save it in your document area. It must: Use only 2 colours Be a bitmap image (Miss will show you how)

Year 7 Graphics – CAD CAM - Logos, Symbols, Pictograms and Ideograms Task 4: Watch miss demo and explanation of using 2D Design software. Open up your logo and trace it out. Save it in the hand-in folder. Miss will show you how. Task 5: Watch miss demo and explanation of using Vinyl Cutter and weeding. Collect your vinyl and place onto card ready for your display with your name on it. Miss will show you how.

Year 7 Graphics – CAD CAM - Logos, Symbols, Pictograms and Ideograms Plenary: Self and Class Assessment Base on the level descriptor mark your own work and the class will mark yours. Level:Description:Self- Assessment: Class Assessment 3 An inaccurate cut out and vinyl produced. There are many mistakes and requires more practice to achieve understanding for the technique. 4 A reasonable accurate cut out and vinyl produced. There are some mistakes but displays a reasonable level of understanding for the technique. 5 A well accurate cut out and vinyl produced. There are a few mistakes, displays a good level understanding for the technique.
