Goal: to continue working with my ELL students for as long as I can. I love teaching!
I love my job. Receiving my degree is not to work out of the classroom, rather it is to continue working with children. I want to be a support for my bilingual students and help them learn by implementing the best practices for ELL. I do not plan on moving out of class or working with adults. I love my job and plan to stay. This program has helped me see and learn so much on how to support these kids.
My most personal challenge in my personal life was going back to school. I decided to go back to school 10 years after graduation to get my bachelors and become certified. I had a full time job and a baby. My way to overcome was to keep looking towards the future fore results. Another reason is that I was the first in my generation to graduate from high school, which was already a big step and then to become a certified teacher was an awesome feeling and a major accomplishment.
The most influential design and development challenge as part of the MAED program was Learning and Assessment for the 21 Century. Assessing has always been difficult for me and I being an ELL myself was having trouble understanding some of the content vocabulary. I overcame that challenge because I do not give up easily and because it was something that would help me enhance my passion of teaching. I am now able to assess my students formally and informally in fun ways without making them feel they are being tested. I learned how to look at data and plan goals accordingly.
Learning and Innovation Skills: Learning and innovation skills increasingly are being recognized as the skills that separate students who are prepared for increasingly complex life and work environments in the 21st century, and those who are not. A focus on creativity, critical thinking, communication and collaboration is essential to prepare students for the future.
