Severe Thunderstorms

What is a Thunderstorm? A thunderstorm is storm that brings lightning and thunder and can make the electricity go out or blink.

What causes a thunderstorm? Moisture in the air mixes with unstable air and an air lift to form a thunderstorm.

How is a thunderstorm predicted? A meteorologist uses satellite images, air observations and computer models to predict a storm.

What scale is a thunderstorm measured on? A thunderstorm is measured on the Lifted Index scale.

SAFETY STEPS Build and emergency kit. Run water in the tub, bowels, buckets etc. Get food you do not have to cook, or reheat. Turn off lights, TV, phones etc. Stay away from windows.

What do I need in my kit? Books, coloring book, crayons etc. Water Food Medical kit Batteries Flashlight Lantern Blankets
