What is FAFSA? FAFSA = Free Application for Federal Student Aid – Helps pay for higher education ( i.e., college, career school, grad school ) – Covers tuition, fees, room/board, books/supplies, and transportation – Three categories: grants, work-study, and loans Who gets federal student aid? – Every student who meets certain eligibility requirements can get some type of federal aid, regardless of age or family income. How do I apply? #1… Create a FAFSA ID ( confirms your identity and enables you to sign your documents electronically )  Go to StudentAid.gov/fsaid #2…Complete the FAFSA application at fafsa.gov  You’ll be able to submit a FAFSA beginning October 1 st !  Your parents will use their 2015 income and tax information  Schools use FAFSA information to award nonfederal aid #3… Review your Student Aid Report (or SAR).  Make sure everything you reported is accurate  The SAR usually includes a number used to determine your eligibility for financial aid Whew, right??

ACT Test Information Next available test is October 22 th Register by September 16 th Cost is $42.50 (no writing) or $58.50 (w/writing) Register at RMHS code = Tests students in math, English, reading & science. Highest score is a 36 composite… average is 22.

SAT Test Information Next available test is November 5 th Register by October 7 th Cost $45 (no essay) or $57 (w/essay) Register at Tests students in math, critical reading and language. A perfect score is 1600 (math score + reading/language) (a score of 1220 is the equivalent of a 27 on the ACT)

Do You Want to Play Sports at Division I or II level NCAA clearinghouse – – Must register on-line – Must send ACT and SAT scores directly to the clearinghouse – Code for sending 9999 – Will want to go over course work with counselor to make sure you are taking correct courses for NCAA and other requirements – Send transcripts

Do you want to play sports at A NAIA college division? NAIA regulations require- – 18 minimum on ACT or 860 on SAT – Overall GPA of 2.O – Graduate in the top half of your class Register on-line – Send transcript to NAIA ACT or SAT scores must be sent directly to NAIA

Want to Know about Scholarships ? Check list of scholarships on the RMHS website – (click on counseling tab then career center tab) Sign up for REMIND! – to (208) Look for scholarships through your church or parent’s employers Check with Civic organizations (i.e., Lions Club and Rotary Club)

Transcripts Transcript request forms can be found in the counseling office. “Official transcript” = sealed and mailed to the schools/program indicated on your form. “Unofficial transcript” = not sealed and can be given directly to you. Transcripts fee is.50 (for envelop and postage).

How do I get a letter of recommendation? Create a resume or brag sheet. Ask teacher or counselor verbally to write the letter. – Make sure to give them the resume. – Give them a stamped envelope if needed and other information needed for task. Make sure to give the teacher plenty of time to write the letter at least 2 weeks.

Military Options Interview each branch of the military you may be interested in – Army rep visits every 3 rd Wednesday (lunchtime) – Air Force visits every 4 th Wednesday (lunchtime) – Marines rep visits 1 st & 3 rd Tuesdays (lunchtime) – Navy rep visits 1 st & 3 rd Fridays as well as 2 nd & 4 th Tuesday (lunchtime) – National Guard rep visits every 4 th Thursday (lunchtime) Consider the option packages for each branch Practice for the ASVAB – Career Center has an ASVAB practice book you can check out Take the ASVAB – The next ASVAB test is scheduled for October 13 th at RMHS Make a commitment to the branch that you feel best fits you

Workforce Options Create a great resume Use your resources to find a job-people you know and people you kind of know Collect application/and return applications Set up interviews-dress appropriately Send a thank you card after the interview
