The Paper Topic: The History of African American Hairstyles Driving Question: What is the history of African American Women hairstyles? Thesis Statement: African women hairstyles began with a combination of traditional hairstyles and Caucasian influences and grew into a wave of concerns with the political world in the 20th century. People of all ages were taken from their safe-haven (what they called home) and were placed into a habitat that gave them no individuality as a person. No one was exempt from this crime.
Story behind the Paper Other Facts Family members began to trade each other to European traders Once Africans were in the hands of the European traders their heads were shaven to remove their culture and was the start that helped change the relationship between the hair and the person Renee Rogers: woman who faced politically incorrect problems while working at American Airlines
Product For the product I used a volunteer as well as myself to do two different techniques that are popular in African American community to use on their own hair. I showed both the Invisible Part Quick Weave and the Sew in Weave technique Since there was two different techniques there was two was of creating the style These products really was at least a 5 hour long process so there had to be time set aside in the day just to do it all from start to finish My mother was of tremendous help to me she showed me how to do one of the techniques and the other information that I knew was from prior knowledge

Connection Between the Paper and the Product The connection between the paper and the product shows how Present-Day African American women wear their hair. It’s also connected to my paper by showing how African American women have conformed to the “European-style” of straight hair instead of “ wool like” hair that they once were known for when they were first brought over to the New World.
Successes and Challenges of GP Successes I finished my paper weeks before it was due My product log was complete before the due date as well Got a chance to start my power point ahead of time Challenges It was difficult in the beginning to figure out what I truly wanted to do for my product
For the Future This experience was definitely fun. My future plans would probably be something along the lines of: Doing hair while in college as a sideline job If I improve on my techniques then after getting one career go back and get a cosmetology certificate and business degree Create a hair salon and hopefully create a chain
