Regional Workshop 6: Project Output Dissemination and Terminal Workshop 7-9 April 2015, Hotel Hollywood, Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina FAO TCP/RER/3402 “Assistance to Western Balkan Countries for Improving Compliance to International Standards on Aquatic Animal Health“ Objectives 5  review the current status and challenges of national aquatic disease surveillance in the 5 participating countries;  learn the basic concepts and principles of a disease surveillance system;  learn the basic concepts and practical application of aquatic disease surveillance;  develop a harmonized surveillance design/methodology (using international standards, i.e. OIE) for the conduct of national and regional surveillance for 3 or 4 regionally important diseases of finfish (e.g. viral haemorrhagic septicaemia (VHS), infectious pancreatic necrosis (IPN), koi herpes virus (KHV), viral encephalopathy and retinopathy (VER)),  discuss other issues relevant to surveillance, e.g. diagnostics, surveillance data analysis, preparation of aquatic animal health information system, including the Western Balkan Aquatic Animal Health Website), and  finalize work plans for the follow-up training/workshop related to surveillance as well as other components of the TCP.

Regional Workshop 6: Project Output Dissemination and Terminal Workshop 7-9 April 2015, Hotel Hollywood, Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina FAO TCP/RER/3402 “Assistance to Western Balkan Countries for Improving Compliance to International Standards on Aquatic Animal Health“ Conclusions of WG discussions 10  Reached a consensus on pathogen list, criteria and goals of surveillance  Different approach taken by different groups, each has very useful contribution  Details will be provided to IC1 (Nihad), TCDC 1 (Sabina), NC 1 (Vladimir) and will be integrated in the surveillance design and manual  Good recommendations targetting both veterinarians and producers - these could be subject for National Workshops  Try to improve the organization of the next workshop based on your recommendations and evaluation of Workshop 1  There are still 5 regional workshops and 5 national workshops – there is ample opportunity for participation  Recommendations on other issues, some of them can be taken up within the current TCP, some of them – we will assist in finding solutions through other means  All materials generated during Workshop 1 will be distributed in a USB

Regional Workshop 6: Project Output Dissemination and Terminal Workshop 7-9 April 2015, Hotel Hollywood, Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina FAO TCP/RER/3402 “Assistance to Western Balkan Countries for Improving Compliance to International Standards on Aquatic Animal Health“ Conlusions 17  All of the participants are well trained in sampling procedures and ready to train the other inspectors or person in charge (training to be organized by CA before spring sampling 2014)  Reached a consensus for drafting the regional diagnostic manual on four viral diseases (VHS, IHN, SVC and KHV)  Different approach taken by different groups, each has very useful contribution  First inputs for regional diagnostic manual will be provided by TCCT 2 (Snjezana) and NC 1 (Vladimir)  Harmonisation of national legislation is the first step in improvement of surveillance and diagnostics  Decision makers strategy is essential for improvement of diagnostic and laboratory capacity  Raise awareness of farmers about importance of AAH control (leaflets)
