Welcome to Year 3 Information Evening We hope you find this useful! Miss Thomas & Mrs Williams

In Year 3 we encourage... Independence A sense of responsibility Enthusiasm and a love of learning Resilience & Yetiness!

General information P.E: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday alternate weeks. French is on Friday mornings with Mrs Papworth PPA- Art (with Mrs Chakraverty) and Music/ PE (with Mrs McGrath). Alternate Monday afternoons. PPA and PE timetables will change throughout the year (termly) – we will let you know of any changes as they arise.

KS2 Rewards and Sanctions Sanctions Verbal Warning Yellow Card/move/sent to another classroom Red Card – detention for 15mins at lunch time (not that common) Missing some/all of playtime/Golden time Rewards  Golden Time  House Points/Table Points  Praise Assembly certificates  Stickers

Homework Reading - 10 mins per day or equivalent. Even free readers should read aloud to an adult regularly (at least 3 times a week). Spellings – spelling lists will be given out termly. Spelling tests happen on a Friday. Maths – Term 1 – 2, 5, 10 and 11 x tables with division inverses and quick recall. Homework is given out on a Friday and is expected back by the following Friday. Maths & English worksheets weekly.

Reading Focus on comprehension We hear children read through guided reading sessions. –This allows children to engage in a dialogue and build up comprehension skills. All children will be heard once weekly as part of guided reading. Reading scheme and Free Readers. Book boxes in each class for changing books. New reading records.

Topic Cross-curricular topics Every topic will have a launch week and a meaningful outcome which the children will work towards Term 1/2 –Local Area & Stone Age to Iron Age Term 3/4 – Movers & Shakers (History focus Ancient Egypt). Term 5/6 – Life on Planet Earth (Science focus – Plants & Animals).

English, Maths & RE English – Power of Reading Maths – Fluency (quick recall), problem solving and reasoning. RE – following the God Matters Scheme.

Assessment at St Bon’s Teachers are constantly assessing pupils Three times a year teachers collate their assessment evidence This is currently recorded in Target Tracker (software for monitoring pupil assessment) Target Tracker is used by class teachers and the senior leadership team, SLT, to monitor progress of individual pupils.

E-Safety At school we use the SMART rules and Hector the Dolphin Children in all year groups learn about Acceptable Use and being a good digital citizen Information on the school website or speak to Mr Harrison. Reminder – Facebook's Terms and Conditions state that it is for children aged 13+

Class Trips/activities Trips/ workshops – there will be more later in the term to support the new curriculum Swimming started today. DBS/CRB checks - get them done now One-off payment!

How can I help? Make sure you encourage your child to do their homework Read regularly with your child – even if your child is a free reader. Find opportunities for your child to use numbers in everyday situations and encourage them to do sums in their head Encourage your child to follow up interests and talk about them Help your child to be ready to learn Ensure your child is not tired at school Ensure your child arrives at school on time

Holy Communion Usually June - there will be information in the church newsletter Classes at the church on Saturdays
